Terms of Service
Last updated 28 July 2026
The short version
CamNotes is a logging tool for camera departments. Use it for lawful work. Your notes are yours — we will not claim ownership of them and we will not use them for anything other than running the service.
We provide the tool as it is. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose, which on a shoot means exporting the report at the end of the day.
These terms include an arbitration agreement and a class-action waiver in section 19, which affect how a dispute between us would be resolved. You can opt out of that section within 30 days.
1. Accepting these terms
By using CamNotes you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it.
2. Who may use it
You must be 18 or older. If you use CamNotes for a company, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms on that company’s behalf.
3. Your account
You do not need an account to log a day or export a report. An account is needed to save days to the cloud, log together with your crew, or publish a report link.
Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at help@camnotes.app if you believe someone else has access to it.
4. Your notes are yours
You keep all rights to everything you log. We claim no ownership of your notes, reports, production names, or anything else you enter.
You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to store the days you choose to save, to show them to people you share them with, and to generate the exports you ask for. That permission ends when you delete the material or close your account.
5. What you must not do
- Use CamNotes for anything unlawful
- Try to access another customer’s data
- Attempt to break, overload or probe the service
- Resell or rebrand CamNotes as your own product without a written agreement
- Upload material you have no right to
6. Paid plans
- Fees are as shown at the time you subscribe, and are billed in advance
- Plans renew automatically until you cancel
- You may cancel at any time; access continues to the end of the paid period
- Fees already paid are not refunded, except where the law requires it or where we have failed to provide the service
- We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice before your next renewal
7. Free plans
The free plan is free. We may change what it includes, but we will not remove your ability to open and export days you have already logged.
8. Availability
We aim to keep CamNotes running and make no promise that it always will be. We may take it down for maintenance, and will avoid doing so without notice where we can.
CamNotes is designed to work without a connection. Days logged on your device remain available to you whether or not our servers are reachable.
9. Keep your own copy
This matters more here than in most software.
CamNotes stores days on the device you log them on. Clearing your browser data, using private browsing, or losing the device will lose days that were not saved to the cloud or exported.
Export the report at the end of a shoot day. That is what the product is for, and it is also your backup.
10. CamNotes is a working tool, not the record
A production’s authoritative record of what was shot is the camera media itself and the offload or media report produced when that media is copied. CamNotes is a working notebook and a way of producing a readable report from it. It is not a system of record, an archive, or a substitute for either.
Do not rely on CamNotes as the only account of what was shot, and do not rely on it for anything where being wrong has consequences you could not absorb.
11. What is in a report is what you put there
CamNotes records what you type and arranges it. It has no way to check any of it against the camera, the media, or the day. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you log and of the reports you send.
Some values are generated rather than typed — clip names count forward from a starting point you give us, and timestamps come from the clock on your device. These are conveniences and can be wrong: a camera can be reset, a card can be reformatted, a device clock can drift or sit in the wrong time zone. Check a report before you send it.
We are not responsible for the consequences of an inaccurate report, whatever the cause — including footage that cannot be found, work reshot, or time spent reconciling a report against the media.
12. What we do not promise
CamNotes is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that CamNotes will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that clip names and other automatically generated values will always match what a camera recorded. CamNotes predicts clip names from the information you give it; it does not read your camera’s media. Verify against the camera or the offload report wherever accuracy matters.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CamNotes will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or the cost of reshooting.
Our total liability for any claim relating to CamNotes is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.
14. Indemnity
You agree to cover us against claims arising from your use of CamNotes in breach of these terms or of the law.
15. Ending it
You may stop using CamNotes at any time, and ask us to delete your account at help@camnotes.app.
We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we end your access without cause, we will refund any prepaid fees for the period remaining.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will tell account holders by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use CamNotes after that means you accept them.
17. Things outside anyone’s control
Neither side is liable for a failure to perform caused by something beyond its reasonable control — including an outage at an infrastructure provider, a network or power failure, a natural disaster, a strike, a war, or an act of government.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
19. Arbitration, and no class actions
Please read this section carefully. It affects how any dispute between us is resolved.
First, talk to us. Most problems are quicker to fix by email. Before starting any formal proceeding, send a description of the dispute to help@camnotes.app and give us 30 days to resolve it.
If that does not resolve it, any dispute arising out of or relating to CamNotes or these terms will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction. The arbitration will take place in California, or remotely if you prefer.
You and CamNotes each waive the right to a jury trial, and agree that claims may be brought only individually — not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding. An arbitrator may not consolidate claims or preside over any form of class proceeding.
Two exceptions. Either side may bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and either side may seek an injunction in court to stop misuse of intellectual property.
You can opt out. If you do not want this section to apply, email help@camnotes.app within 30 days of first accepting these terms, saying so. Opting out does not affect anything else in these terms, and we will not treat you differently for it.
If the class-action waiver above is found unenforceable, this whole arbitration section does not apply, and disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, to whose jurisdiction both sides consent.
20. Everything else
If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing something is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about CamNotes.
